Hiring Interns: When It Comes Full Circle It’s Awesome

Whenever we hire an intern we always try and make sure that the relationship is a true “Win-Win”situation for both parties involved: the intern, and obviously, our company.

Probably our most successful intern to date has been Mike O’Donnell, who interned with us as we were building Intern Profits from the ground up.

Mike was instrumental in helping us not only build the product (for those of you who are familiar with our Intern Database, Mike collected a LOT of the data, and also managed other interns who did the same).

He also helped us with a lot of Search Engine Optimization work, including a lot of video SEO (you’ve probably seen him on our YouTube channel), as well as a lot of link wheels and other SEO activities.

This past weekend, we had the pleasure of attending a great marketing conference in Austin, TX: The Traffic & Conversion Summit.  We were excited to actually meet Mike IN PERSON for the first time ever!  Yes, despite the fact that he interned with us for nearly a year, our “interaction” was limited to email, skype and the telephone.

Mike’s internship was 100% virtual, and proved to be a great success.  So much so, in fact, that he was attending the same conference as we are, with goals of starting his own business in the very near future.

On Saturday night we all had the chance to have a great dinner together, and then go out for a few “adult beverages”.  Mike told Justin, our CEO, that it was great to see him so “relaxed”, and that on this particular evening, he didn’t strike him as “Justin the manager”.  Although the words came out a little bit strange, we knew that it was a great compliment, and we were just really happy that the internship proved to be a valuable learning experience for Mike.

It just goes to show that if you can actually start your own internship program, and give your interns challenging, quality work, they can deliver great things in return.

We know that Mike has a bright future in front of him, and it was great to finally meet him in person (after nearly 1.5 years of knowing each other!)

The event in Austin was a great event overall for Intern Profits.  Not only did we finally get to meet one of our former virtual interns in person, but we were also able to catch up with many of our affiliates and current customers.

We’ll have another post soon featuring some of the great customers (and affiliates) that we were able to catch up with in Austin this past weekend.  Until then, go hire an intern!

    Hi Eric,

Thanks for the comment! We actually have an entire site dedicated to our interns:

Check it out, it’s where our interns post about their internship experience with us.
